This hidden cove in the south of the island, near Ferreries, exudes magic and nature.

It is a calcareous rocky cove with a paradisiacal bathing area. Its blue waters and white sand, together with the pine forest vegetation that surrounds it, make it a postcard. Precisely for this reason, in the summer period (between June and September) it is overcrowded.

Its beach is famous for being

It is accompanied by an even smaller but equally beautiful jewel: Cala Mitjaneta. Although both are small, Mitjaneta can be classified as a tiny beach, ideal for those seeking privacy.

Cala Mitjana is approximately 75 meters where the Mitjana ravine that gives its name to the place flows into. The interest of the cove is increased by the proximity of the Camí de Cavalls, the surrounding sandstone quarries and the remains of the peasants that can be seen in the descent.

How to get to Cala Mitjana

Due to its proximity to the well-known Cala Galdana, getting to Cala Mitjana is very easy. However, you will have to walk a bit, since there is a parking lot from which the passage of cars is not enabled. In any case, you can get there:

  • By car from the town of Ferreries. To do so, take the ME-22 road from the south to the neighboring Cala Galdana. When you arrive at the parking lot of Cala Mitjana, you will have to continue walking for about 15 minutes. The total distance is only 7 kilometers, and walking only one kilometer (downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back).
  • By car from Ciutadella. In this case, the last stretch of road is the same. What changes is that you will have to get to Ferreries by the ME-1 road and at the traffic circle at the entrance take the ME-22 towards the south.
  • By car from Mahón or Es Mercadal. If you are traveling from the capital or from the neighboring town of Es Mercadal, take the ME-1 road to Ferreries and go around the town to the north until you reach the traffic circle at the turnoff to Santa Galdana.
  • By bus it is not possible to get there directly, although the lines

Beach services

Both Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta are the virgin alternatives to Cala Galdana. It is therefore impossible to find services of any kind in any of them. The parking lot is the last area where you can look for water and food if you are going to spend a long time in the cove.

Nearby there is a picnic area with wooden tables in the pine forest. There you can have lunch without forgetting to save your waste for later disposal.
